Residential Recovery

The Gifted Healing Center operates Umoja House, an Afro-centric, spiritually based residential recovery program for addicts and alchoholics. Umoja House is a home that uplifts the African-American spirit as it promotes dignity. Umoja, one of the seven principles of Kwaanza, stands for Unity - to strive for and maintain unity in the family, community, nation and our race. Our ultimate goal is to provide an environment in which African-Americans afflicted with addiction feel welcome, not stigmatized, and can find the path to recovery and health.

Transitional Housing

We also operate a 12-bed transitional housing facility in Oak Park called Ujima Estates. Ujima, another principle of Kwaanza, stands for "collective work and responsibility." TGHC believes that, collectively, we can empower people of color to work tgether in maintaining a clean and sober environment. This complex serves both men and women who require safe, drug-free housing as they move from treatment to self-sufficiency.
